The lake is broad enough for distance to become part of the day. From a small boat, long ridgelines recede and quiet inlets appear only as the shoreline turns. VALE keeps the crossing unhurried and leaves the hours after returning open, allowing the scale of the water to settle before the journey moves elsewhere.
Beyond the shoreline, the route rises through cultivated ground and wooded slopes, with the lake appearing and disappearing between them. The walk is chosen for what the changing height reveals rather than the difficulty of the climb.
